I feel like we have just come back from heaven,
horse heaven that is. We have just returned from the Kentucky Horse
Park in Lexington, KY after showing at the Kentucky Spring
Horseshow.
What a horse-friendly facility – the rings, barns, and schooling
areas were everything you could ask for in a showground. I can
see why they were given the World Equestrian Games in 2010. The
horseshow staff was a pleasure to work with, the rings ran promptly
and on time, and the footing was great. There were hundreds of
acres to ride on, and even with 1,500 horses there you could get
lost by yourself riding out on the vast fields of Kentucky bluegrass.
This is a horseman’s horseshow. I never thought I would say
this, but it is equal to or better than Palm Beach (surely the
footing is!).
We have come to call this Wellington North because the competition
is so fierce. Many of the same barns and horses make this their
stop in heading north for the summer. Throw in a few locals and
mid-westerners and the competition is as good as you are going
to get anywhere. Speaking of the competition: a huge congratulations
to Michelle Montemarano on her Reserve Championship with her United in the Children’s Hunter. Great job Michelle, you looked
beautiful in all your rounds. Now it’s on to the Junior Hunters!
Congratulations to Tom Watts and his two horses, Hector
de Belair and Lord De Tourilles. Tom had 3rd, 8th, and 5th place finishes
in the Adult Jumpers. Not bad for the first time in the Adults!
Congratulations to Kristin Montemarano and her Skylar. Kristin laid down beautiful trip after trip in the A/O adults. Great job
for the first time out this year.
Congratulations to Lisa Zimmer and her LA, getting more and more
consistent in the ring. She had a 7th place finish in Children’s
Equitation.
Congratulations to Lisa Shaplen and Glory in the Schooling Jumpers
and Adult Jumpers. It was also her first time out this year. Good
job Lisa.
A big congratulations to Sarah Porter on the purchase of her two
new horses Cashmere and Major, what lovely horses. Sarah actually
survived the busy warm-up rings and jumped around in beautiful
form.
Also a big congratulations to Lisa Zimmer on her new horse Harley.
In addition to her LA, she now has a nice 1-2 punch.
A special thanks to Dr. John Steele and Richard
Cheska – finding
good horses is hard to do.
And finally, congratulations to Leslie Ward on her two 8th place
finishes in the 1.35m on her Hamlet de Flandre. Congratulations
to Loretta Mayer and Joe Sorce on their success showing in the
1.35m and 1.4m on Olano and Rolex.
Well now it’s on to Saugerties and Lake Placid. Looking
forward to a return to Kentucky in August!
